Dr. Dhawan Co-authors Study on Cartilage Restoration
UOA’S Dr. Aman Dhawan is one of five authors of “Clinical Cartilage Restoration: Evolution and Overview,” appearing in the October issue of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Cartilage injuries of the knee affect approximately 900,000 Americans and result in more than 200,000 surgeries each year. Dr. Dhawan and his colleagues compared the ever-evolving myriad of surgical management techniques used to treat chondral injuries, basing their study on a review of the current medical literature on cartilage restoration. Their findings show that when making treatment decisions, surgeons ultimately must consider numerous factors, including the patient’s goals and expectations; the size, depth and location of the injury; and previous therapeutic interventions and responses.
