About Michael Phelan

Michael Phelan is a physical therapist at University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA). Michael attended The College of New Jersey, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Rutgers the School of Health Professions, Newark Campus.

Michael’s primary experience is in the area of outpatient orthopaedics and patients with vestibular dysfunction, as well as patients who have sustained a concussion. Michael received a certification from the American Institute of Balance in Vestibular Rehabilitation with a focus on patients with symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), motion sensitivity and balance impairments. He enjoys treating all pathologies but has a great passion for treating patients with concussions. Michael brings his knowledge and experience treating patients who have endured a concussion to the Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Excellence at UOA.

Michael developed a strong affinity for physical therapy after experiencing an ankle fracture while mountain biking. By having his own personal experience with injury, his philosophy towards patient care moved him to build strong foundations with each patient he treats to enhance their overall outcome and experience to assist with getting them back in motion.

In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, bike riding, listening to music, woodworking, singing and renovating his house.
