Joseph Patrick Leddy, MD
1939 – 2015

University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) deeply mourns the loss of our friend and former colleague Dr. Joseph Patrick Leddy, who passed away peacefully in his home on August 15, 2015.

Dr. Leddy was one of the cornerstones of UOA as one of the founding members 40 years ago. He was a renowned fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He leaves behind a legacy through his son, Dr. Timothy P. Leddy, who is currently a surgeon with the practice in the same specialty.

“Being able to practice with my father for about five years was an unbelievable, storybook kind of experience,” stated Dr. Leddy. “And when he was ready to retire, one of the nicest compliments I think I’ve ever been paid is when he said, ‘You know, when your son can do it as good or better than you, you know you can leave the practice.’”

In addition to his historic contribution to the practice, Dr. Leddy was one of the founders of the UOA residency program at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He was also former Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Leddy is survived by his wife, three sons and four grandchildren. His devotion and passion for his profession, his patients and the community will never be forgotten.
