Dr. Hosea’s Patient Tells Personal Story in Women’s Running magazine

Dr. Timothy Hosea and University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) are featured in the July 2015 issue of Women’s Running magazine in an article written by patient Erin Douglas. Erin is a former amateur runner and Art Director for the magazine. Her article titled “Story From the Sidelines” tells her personal struggle with finding a diagnosis for her knee pain.

Erin suffered excruciating knee pain following a long run. In fact, the pain was so unbearable she had to stop running altogether. Determined to find the source of her pain, she searched for answers and eventually found what she was looking for at UOA when Dr. Hosea performed a VisionScope procedure.

During this procedure, a small needle endoscope was inserted into her knee for a clear view of its parts. The procedure was minimally invasive and took about 20 minutes with minimal pain and recovery time.

Though she is still unable to run, Erin is relieved and thankful to Dr. Hosea to finally have an understanding of her injury. Dr. Hosea’s diagnosis was Grade II Chondromalacia Medial Femoral Condyle, which is damage to the articular cartilage at the end of the femur where it is connected to the tibia by the patella. He also confirmed an original diagnosis of an inflamed IT band, a common overuse injury in which the connective tissue rubs against the thighbone.

Armed with a firm diagnosis, Erin is working hard at the gym while she pursues treatment options.

Dr. Timothy Hosea is an orthopedic surgeon at UOA specializing in sports medicine. He has extensive experience in treating all levels of athletes. Along with his work at UOA, Dr. Hosea holds such positions as U.S. Olympic Team Physician for the Rowing, Canoe/Kayak and Cycling teams at the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney, Australia and Orthopaedic Consultant and Team Physician at Rutgers University.
