Dr. Matthew McDonnell Discusses Spine Health and Surgery on WCTC’s Points Medical Sound Advice

mcdonnell-newDr. Matthew McDonnell, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty in spine surgery, was featured on the evening of February 26 in an illuminating discussion on WCTC 1450 AM radio’s “Sound Advice” program with Bert Baron.

During the show, Dr. McDonnell discussed his background and experiences as well as his approach to healthcare. Some of the highlights of the broadcast include the following:

  • Dr. McDonnell discussed several of the types of procedures performed on an outpatient basis.
  • “We have been pushing the envelope over the last several years to try to treat certain conditions on an outpatient basis because it is a better experience for the patient,” said Dr. McDonnell.
  • He provided advice for common injuries in the winter such as strains or disc herniation.
  • Dr. McDonnell explained the process of going through same-day surgery and recovering at home. He reviewed the requirements for a candidate of same-day surgery.
  • He provided tips to promote spine health such as maintaining a healthy weight and an active lifestyle.
  • Dr. McDonnell highlighted the recent advancements in spine surgery. During the show he reviewed which procedures can be done on an outpatient basis and which procedures are on their way to becoming less invasive.
  • Dr. McDonnell discussed UOA’s continuum of care philosophy. “I think we’re fortunate in that we can provide very comprehensive care in our practice.
