Football Injury Update – Episode 11: Joel Bitonio
The Cleveland Browns lost on Sunday … again. Sitting in the basement of the AFC North, the ever so coveted first win just seems to elude them week after week. Unfortunately, the injuries have not and continue to siphon the little amount of hope that is left of turning the season around. Sunday was no different as guard Joel Bitonio has had season-ending surgery to repair his Lisfranc injury. A Lisfranc injury is an injury to the bones and ligaments on the top of the foot. It can be treated with a boot. Or, in more severe cases like Bitonio, surgery is required.
Dr. Kenneth G. Swan, Jr., our sports medicine specialist, also serves as team physician for Woodbridge Township School District and Perth Amboy public schools. Dr. Swan discusses a Lisfranc injury and timetable for Bitonio to return to play.
