Football Injury Update – Episode 19: Geoff Swaim

Leddy

The Dallas Cowboys roared into Pittsburgh with a seven-game win streak on the line. They rolled out with an eight-game win streak lead by their Rookie QB star, Dak Prescott. The Cowboys have become an offensive powerhouse with weapons at every position waiting to pounce on defensive inefficiencies. We have all heard of Ezekiel Elliott and are marveled by his ability to gain yardage and score touchdowns. A name we have not heard as frequently as Elliott is Geoff Swaim, a second-year tight end out of Texas who is the number two TE behind Witten. Swaim has seen his fair share of turf this season with playing 203 offensive snaps and catching 6 passes. That is all in the past now for Swaim as he suffered a season-ending pectoral tendon tear as he was trying to cut block a Steelers’ defensive end.  This is a tough injury to swallow for Swaim as he now must sit and watch as his team makes a run for a chance to play in February.

Dr. Timothy P. Leddy, one of our hand and upper extremity specialists explains the injury, how surgical intervention is necessary, the surgery to repair and the long road to recovery.

We have partnered with WFAN 660 AM/101.9 FM to bring you the weekly Football Injury Update, a recap of the top injuries across the NFL with our doctors providing their expert medical opinion on the injury, treatment options and prognosis to return to the field of play.
