Football Injury Update – Episode 20: Alex Lewis
The Ravens are coming off a win versus the lowly Cleveland Browns, but are once again at a disadvantage. The offensive line lost another Rookie in Left Guard Alex Lewis.
Lewis suffered a high ankle sprain in the third quarter on Sunday, which could not have come at a worse time for the Ravens, who will have to start their seven-week push for the playoffs this Sunday without him, as he is expected to miss six weeks. There is potentially good news for Lewis, in that he could return and be available should the Ravens make the playoffs. It doesn’t look great from a team standpoint though, as they have already started six different offensive line combinations this season. Despite sitting atop the AFC North at 5-4, the Ravens will have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time if they want to see their starting offensive line playing together in late January.
Dr. Charles J. Gatt, Jr., one of our sports medicine specialists, discusses the severity of a high ankle sprain, the rehabilitation and Lewis’ prognosis to return to play this season.
