Leadership Ask 2009
As you know, I am involved with an organization called Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a truly unique and exciting nonprofit that is addressing one of the great challenges in global health today – the acute shortage of trained health care professionals. I can only participate in this endeavour with the support and generosity provided by the physicians at University Orthopaedics Associates. My partners have my sincere gratitude for allowing me the opportunity and flexibility to make these trips happen.
HVO gives me an opportunity to make a real and lasting contribution to this problem by volunteering my knowledge and skills as a health care professional. I have seen for myself the changes in care and the improvement in patient outcomes that result from the efforts of HVO volunteers.

As volunteers, we are given the chance to work side-by-side with students, faculty and clinicians exchanging ideas, information and knowledge that will impact the care of patients today, tomorrow, and for years to come. We are empowering health care providers by giving them the skills that will transform and save lives.

If you are looking for a worthwhile organization to support this year, please consider HVO. Donations to HVO help fund the development of medical libraries at sites, the processing of millions of dollars of donated educational materials and equipment, the development of new training sites, the recruitment and preparation of volunteers, and many, many more activities.
