A study done over a nine-year period between 1997 and 2006 has shown the majority of injuries sustained during Halloween are due to poor pumpkin-cutting practices.

“Every Halloween orthopaedic surgeons treat cuts, lacerations and injuries just from carving a pumpkin. It’s important to realize that there is a wrong way to do this, and for starters, children and adults should never use a kitchen knife. Use proper utensils, carve away from the body, and never rush when engaging in this popular fall activity” says Dr. Doumas of University Orthopaedic Associates.

It’s never too soon to consider your safety! Here are some tips to make sure you and your family keep the “boo” while avoiding “boo-boos” at Halloween next year.
