About John T. Barry

John T. Barry is a physical therapist at University Orthopaedic Associates. He obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA in 2013. During his time there, he completed a one-year internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, working in outpatient musculoskeletal rehabilitation and acute care settings with a focus on thoracic and pulmonary disorders. John spent his early career as an acute care therapist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, working with patients in the Oncology, Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Medicine, Cardiac Surgery, Emergency Department, Total Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Trauma service lines. He has been an APTA-credentialed Clinical Instructor since 2015.

After gathering an appreciation for the complexities of medical conditions and their impact on the human movement system, John transitioned settings and continued his professional education at Good Shepherd Penn Partners in Philadelphia, completing an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program in 2017. He has practiced as a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist since 2018 and became credentialed in The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 2019. John has worked as an adjunct faculty member at the Thomas Jefferson University and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia/Saint Joseph’s University Physical Therapy programs and held a faculty position for the Good Shepherd Penn Partners Orthopedic Residency program, where he mentored residents in the Spine and Lower Quarter didactic modules.

John is passionate about empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health care through patient education, a collaborative approach to the rehabilitation experience, and shared decision making. When he is not working with patients to achieve their goals, John enjoys hiking the National Parks, learning about cooking international dishes and jumping into the ocean at all times of the year.
