Carlos A. Sagebien Co-Authors Clinical Trial
Dr. Carlos A. Sagebien, a fellowship-trained traumatology surgeon at University Orthopaedic Associates, is a co-author of the Regional vs. General Anesthesia for Promoting Independence after Hip Fracture Surgery (REGAIN). This is a clinical research trial conducted by the University of Pennsylvania with funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. It is designed to determine whether one type of standard care anesthesia (spinal anesthesia versus general anesthesia) given to patients undergoing surgery for a hip fracture leads to better outcomes in recovery of walking, overall health and disability, pain and survival. This multi-center randomized controlled trial will enroll more than 2,000 patients age 50 and older in over 25 cities in the United States and Canada. Click here for further information.
