Somerset, New Jersey (February 26, 2018) Dr. Charles J. Gatt, Jr., of University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) has been named the recipient of the 2018 Dr. Timothy Hosea Team Physician Award. The award, given by the Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ), was presented to Dr. Gatt by the ATSNJ on Monday, February 26.

The Dr. Timothy Hosea Team Physician Award is given annually to one physician for excellence in care, research, volunteer/charitable efforts and dedication to the athletic training profession.

Among his many qualifications and honors, most recently Dr. Gatt and his team are the recipients of the 2018 Excellence in Research Award given by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine for their work on tissue engineering and meniscal replacements. Dr. Gatt is the chairman of the orthopaedic department, Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and cares for Rutgers and Rider University as well as Montgomery and surrounding high school athletes.

The ATSNJ Dr. Timothy Hosea Team Physician Award was created following the untimely death in 2015 of Dr. Timothy Hosea, a leading orthopaedic surgeon in the field of sports medicine. Dr. Hosea had a distinguished professional career as an orthopaedic surgeon, researcher, educator and team physician. His team physician duties included caring for Rutgers University athletes, and for USRowing in 12 world championships as well as in the Olympic Games. He was a member of the elite Herodicus Society, AAOS, NJSIAA medical advisory board and provided decades of service and mentorship to the profession of athletic training.
