UOA Grabs Some Ice at the #MikeyStrong23 Charity Hockey Game
Drs. David A. Harwood and Carlos A. Sagebien stood front and center during the second annual Boomer & Carton/Mikey Strong 23 Hockey Game presented by WFAN. The event was held on March 19, 2016 at Ice World Middletown Sports Complex and featured several NHL alumni.
In January 2014, Mike Nichols sustained a spinal cord injury during a high school hockey game. Nichols, a New Jersey native, appeared on the Boomer & Carton show that following November. In a moving interview, Nichols steered the interview from discussing his recovery to the topic of supporting research for many others in the paralysis community.
Among the VIP crowd was Eric LeGrand, the former Rutgers football player who suffered a spinal injury during a game in his junior year in 2010, resulting in paralysis from the neck down. Eric LeGrand is the inspiration for the Reeve Foundation’s Team LeGrand.
As a gold sponsor of the event, UOA was honored to participate in such a good cause. Funds from the hockey event largely benefit the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing quality of life and discovering cures for spinal cord injury.
