University Orthopaedic Associates Physicians Named 2024 Select Surgeons Bone & Joint!
University Orthopaedic Associates would like to congratulate our dedicated physicians who were named to the 2024 Select Surgeons Bone & Joint list. The 2024 award winners from UOA are:
Dr. Chiappetta is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and a native of New Jersey. With experience in a wide variety of surgical procedures, he specializes in both elective and traumatic spine cases and uses the latest and most modern minimally invasive and robotic techniques to ensure his patients experience a successful recovery. He is dedicated to providing each of his patients with an individualized treatment approach with the goal of helping them return to a happy, healthy quality of life.
Dr. Gatt is board certified in orthopaedic surgery specializing in sports medicine. He is the orthopaedic consultant and team physician at Rutgers University as well as the head orthopaedic consultant for Rider University Athletics. Dr. Gatt enjoys helping all types of athletes, whether that’s getting high school and collegiate athletes back on the field to fulfill their dreams or helping those who exercise recreationally get back to doing what they love. He is currently involved in several research projects working to advance sports medicine procedures and treatments.
Dr. Harwood is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a specialty in joint replacement and arthritis surgery. He stays involved with clinical trials for patients with degenerative knee diseases, as he is devoted to helping patients with this condition achieve total recovery and relief from their symptoms. Dr. Hardwood has a number of accomplishments, such as being elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America®, and named as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor multiple times.
Dr. Kayiaros is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a specialty in orthopaedic trauma and adult reconstruction for elective joint replacement. Throughout his career, he has given nearly two dozen professional presentations on orthopaedic surgery topics and has a wide range of clinical interests including complex revision hip and knee replacement, same-day outpatient hip and knee replacement surgeries and periprosthetic fractures. He strives to help each of his patients experience a speedy recovery.
Dr. Leddy is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and subspecialty certified in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and was selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and Jersey Choice Top Doctor. Dr. Leddy is an accomplished author of many articles in peer-reviewed journals. He volunteered for several years as an orthopaedics site director in Peru for Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a non-profit organization that works to improve the availability and quality of healthcare in healthcare resource-scarce countries.
Dr. Lu is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a specialty in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Mid-Atlantic Shoulder and Elbow Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Lu has earned a number of prestigious awards in his career. He was also named to the 2022 Select Surgeons Bone & Joint list. His clinical interests include rotator cuff repairs, shoulder replacements and shoulder labrum repairs.
Dr. Monica is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in open and arthroscopic shoulder surgery and surgery of the hand and upper extremity. He was given the “Top Doctors” Award in New Jersey Monthly seven times over the last eight years and has received the Best Doctors in America® award every year since 2017. Dr. Monica is a large contributor to the orthopaedic scientific community, as he has published many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters that have been presented at scientific meetings all over the world, including in Scotland and Korea.
Dr. Polonet is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a specialty in orthopaedic trauma and fracture care. He completed a fellowship in traumatology at Harborview Medical Center after obtaining his medical degree from the School of Medicine at the State University of New York. Dr. Polonet is the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He has used his specialty to volunteer in times of crisis, such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Dr. Polonet is dedicated to helping his patients heal as quickly as possible so they can get back to their favorite activities.
Dr. Sagebien is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in traumatology. He is a fellow of the AO Foundation, a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Sagebien has spoken at numerous regional and national scientific meetings over the years and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Swan is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who received specialty training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He is the Director of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Medical Director of the Human Motion Institute at Raritan Bay Medical Center. Dr. Swan serves as the team physician for several Woodbridge Township high schools. He was a member of the Cornell University Varsity Football Ivy League Championship team, as well as being inducted into the Columbia High School Athletic Hall of Fame for wrestling. He’s received many honors, including a “Gold Doc” humanism award.
