Osteoarthritis of the knee is the result of wearing down the cartilage and synovial membranes inside of the knee joint. In some cases, bone spurs in the knee can form inside the joint causing pain. Osteoarthritis can be caused by overuse, heredity, injuries to the knee joint, or excess weight.
