I broke my left foot without knowing it and continued to walk on it due to neuropathy left over from back injuries, hence I did not have any pain. It developed into Charcot foot, a debilitating condition that according to one surgeon I consulted with has a great chance of resulting in amputation of the affected foot. I made an appointment with Dr. Fleming at University Orthopaedics who explained to me his course of treatment for Charcot foot. It involved surgery to correct the misalignment and remove the ulceration at the bottom of the foot, and installing a fixator, which I had for 6 weeks, and no weight bearing on the foot. I had to undergo several more surgeries and am presently in physical therapy and have custom orthotic shoes for a period of time. Needless to say, Dr Fleming’s approach and his bedside manner are second to none. I feel as though he saved my foot and I highly recommend consulting with him should you have any foot issues. I have never met a doctor/surgeon with his demeanor before and feel totally indebted to him for his care, skills, and total approach to the treatment of my condition. His nurse, Tess, rounds out the terrific experience when you visit the office.

I wish I could have Dr. McDonnell for all my medical needs. I have never met a doctor with his kindness. He has the best bedside manners, explains everything, and took away my Sciatic pain that I have suffered with for 20 years. I was on Opiates, which was the only way I could function, and he explained to me how these would make my intense spinal surgery harder to recover from because of my brain receptors. I had been on Permanent Disability since 2005. I’m 69 and had no quality of life. Knowing he was going to help me, I went home and started detoxing from pain medication I had been taking for 20 yrs. Unfortunately, there are doctors who just keep filling your scripts without trying to help you. It wasn’t easy but with my family’s help, I did it! So on the day of surgery, I felt good, and I thanked Dr. McDonnell for this. He was a God-sent. Although the surgery was rough, I no longer have L5/S1 pain, and at 69, I see a light at the end of my tunnel. Thank you so much Dr. McDonnell for fixing me and helping me become drug-free. You are a one-of-a-kind doctor. I wish I found you sooner. Your staff at RWJ, including PAs, nurses, aids, and PTs, treated me with empathy and kindness. They were so accommodating and never made me feel uncomfortable. He can be proud of his staff at the office, and hospital.

I was diagnosed with a herniated lumbar disc in 2019, which became symptomatic in the Summer of 2022. The gradually increasing pain eventually incapacitated me. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Chiapetta, his stellar PA Payal Patel, and all the caring and professional staff at UOA and at the Ambulatory Surgical Center, for giving me my active life-style back! Dr. Chiapetta & staff performed a laminotomy and discectomy, and implanted a Barricaid device to help prevent future re-herniation. The surgery was done so well, and the aftercare and follow-up visits have been full of continued kind and professional care. I have been recommending UOA glowingly to friends and family, and am more thankful and appreciative than I can express!

I have a meniscus tear in my right knee which required physical therapy. My physical therapist is Joseph Abadir in Morganville. For four months, I was his patient. Joe applied treatments to my knee with great care and was attentive to my needs, whether applying heat or ice packs. Joe is an excellent therapist and very knowledgeable. He effectively demonstrated and communicated the different exercises I had to do and I made significant improvements under his care. Joe is a very personable and professional therapist who always had time to answer my questions and concerns. I recommend Joe highly and would go back to him for any kind of physical therapy, follow-up or continued maintenance.

From the very start Mike was helpful and supportive. He took the time to listen about my injury. He carefully explained the game plan. Both he and Nadine were very encouraging throughout the process. I am glad I switched to UOA!

On 11/10/22 I fractured my pelvis. I am happy to report that I am just about fully recovered. With both Dr. Beiro and Megan working with me and their diligence to my care they made this possible.

After much research, I chose Dr. Stephen Kayiaros as my surgeon for a total hip replacement. I feel better leaving the hospital than I felt walking in. Post surgery pain was extremely well managed. The debilitating pain I suffered from arthritis is completely gone. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Kayiaros. His list of credentials is extensive. His personality is very calm and comforting. Before I had surgery, I had to rely on a walker and now, I am regaining, my life and my freedom. I never thought that I could say that a hospital stay and Surgery was wonderful, but this was. My thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kaiyaros. his staff, the hospital, the nurses and everyone that was involved in my care.

I came to UOA “accidentally” due to trauma. I consider myself very fortunate to have initially been cared for by Dr. Sagebien and his team. My “multiple fractured” ankle was saved. Now I am in process of ankle replacement (due to arthritis years later) under the care of Dr. Fleming. The physicians, nurses and all staff have always been more than kind, expert, and upbeat. PT is great. Dr. Fleming responds to every concern with real care, patiently explaining any detail. A pretty amazing surgeon. As I said, I am fortunate.
