After a visit to Dr. Harwood, I was referred to Ryan Kay and his staff. Ryan was extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. He developed an effective treatment plan and he and his colleagues were very helpful and attentive. This is my second experience with UOANJ, and both times, they exceeded expectations.

My PT, Ryan was amazing the whole time I was recovering from my acl surgery. He thoroughly explained each step of the recovery process and made me feel really confident in my ability to recover and return back to sports. He was always responsive to emails and would help you outside the visits as well. He is super educated and modified my program based on my development over the weeks. I recommend him to anyone that needs physical therapy.

After my hip replacement surgery, I once again put myself in the capable hands of Ryan Kay as he had helped me so much the previous year. His no-nonsense yet friendly & patient guidance & instruction once again gave me the knowledge & structure I needed to proceed to a successful outcome. His professional attitude & ready wit have made my difficult & intimidating journey to mobility a very positive experience.
I have utilized UOA PT after I had surgery on my back in 2017 and now for a total knee replacement. My physical therapist was Ryan Kay and I cannot possibly speak in anything but glowing terms for his care and therapy for both procedures. Not only is Ryan fantastic at what he does but EVERYBODY from the front desk, physical therapists and all the assistants are amazing and ALWAYS care about your progress. UOA has the best facility and the best staffing and their collaboration with all the doctors and their patients is outstanding. Hands down the best place around for PT! I would never consider even looking at other places. Once you have experienced the level of care I have received, as well as, witnessing other patients’ care there is no reason to think about an alternate facility.

In 2023, after a bad motorcycle accident, that left me in a wheelchair, I started my road to recovery with Ryan at UOA. Friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine care from the staff made this difficult time enjoyable. I looked forward to the days I would go for therapy. The facility is clean and well-rounded, from modern equipment to basic weights. The innovative ways Ryan helped me recover my mobility are priceless. I’m back to work and able to do the things I love. With the things I learned I am getting better every day. Thanks to Ryan and the great team at UOA.

In the early stages of my ACL recovery, I began using the BFR to restrict blood flow to my injured leg during select exercises. The BFR helped me start to build muscle back at a faster rate and my leg/knee as a whole felt stronger when I used it. At the time, I was moving off of my crutches and out of my brace, and the BFR undoubtedly sped up this process. It helped me gain confidence in my progress and reduce the atrophy in my leg. I would most definitely recommend incorporating BFR training to future ACL recovery patients because I attribute a large part of my progression to my use of the BFR band.

Ryan was instrumental in helping me get my strength and range of motion back. Ryan always “listened” and would adjust the treatment and program therapy for the day as needed. I also observed what a great mentor he is to the “therapists” in training – especially with Eric!
I spent about 14 months in physical therapy at University Orthopaedic Associates. I started a couple of months before the decision to have surgery on both shoulders, four months apart, with the first one in November 2020. My twice-a-week routine was always pleasant. From the ladies at the reception desk, to the many assistants that helped me along the way. They should all be commended for such consistency in customer care and support.
As for my specific Therapist, Ryan Kay, I can’t say enough about him. I am one who seeks to understand my medical diagnosis and prognosis; (in detail). Not once did Ryan ever hesitate to explain things to me using one of the shoulder models or merely take the time to point out specific causes of pain and areas that required further development. He’d correct my form from way across the room, always ensuring that I avoid further damage. Although I progressed consistently over the past year, a turning point occurred when Ryan realized I backed off my strength training at home (for fear of re-injury) and was only stretching. This was during a period of “rollercoaster” levels of pain, from one day to the next. That’s when he emphasized the need to balance my home efforts to be disciplined in both areas of my development. My recovery for the next three months thereafter was drastic. The pinnacle was November 2nd, when Ryan insisted that I grab my tennis racquet from my car, to hit some serves in the back room. Having grown up on the tennis court and completed at the Division II collegiate level, I was truly overjoyed at the outcome. He actually believed in me more than I did. We ended up filming it to show my family and friends. Mission accomplished. I’m back on the court!
Lastly, (and importantly). I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge Ryan’s care and conscientiousness in tending to other patients beyond just me. Furthermore, his professionalism and warm personality when dealing with other patients, the assistants, students, and the front desk staff did not go unnoticed.
All staff were supportive, friendly and knowledgeable, but I must say that all aspects of Ryan’s leadership contributed significantly to my recovery. I couldn’t be more pleased!
Having physical therapy at UOA was a rewarding experience. It also helped alleviate the pain I was experiencing. All the staff were friendly and helpful. In the beginning of therapy, I saw Ben Glider who then introduced me to Ryan Kay before Ben left for the Avenel Office. I completed my sessions with Ryan who was cordial and very professional. He was always concerned that I was not in any pain while doing the exercises and always asked if I was alright. Ryan is an asset to UOA and should I need therapy again I would definitely request him to be my therapist!
I highly recommend the Physical Therapy Group at UOA! I’ve been to many PT groups through the years due to injuries and was very impressed with the personnel and facility. My recovery from my knee surgery was very smooth thanks to the attention and care given by Ryan and his crew. I’m looking forward to being back after my other knee surgery.
